Evaluation of Rotational Stability and Stress Shielding of a Stem Optimized for Hip Replacements—A Finite Element Study

The natural distribution of stress in the femur is altered when total hip arthroplasty (THA) performed. In fact, a stem inserted inside femur, there variation due to difference rigidity between material with which made and femur. This generates phenomenon shielding. aim this study design an optimized prosthesis that guarantees excellent rotational stability reduced Methods: Through finite element method (FEM), mechanical behavior subjected loads described by ISO 7206-4:2010 studied. Results: topological optimization, reduction shielding proximal zone 31.46%. addition ridges on dorsal side also improves 27.82%. Conclusions: decrease stiffness recorded greater bone. presence favors corticalization bone as it near dorsal, ensuring further stability. perforated presented shows increase primary improvement regrowth prosthesis.
